As the expert in your subjected area, you probably have a very strong idea of what people really need – but here is the problem. People don’t buy what they need. They don’t say yes to what they need. They say yes to what they want.

It’s really important that when you’re creating opportunities for people to invest with you – whether that’s through products, or programs, or services; that you’re really making sure you are giving people specifically what they really want.

There is a saying: “If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. If you teach a man how to fish, you’ll feed him for life.”

I was very influenced by this when I started out in business, and I was very determined I was gonna teach people how to fish. So, in marketing and helping people to get new clients I was gonna equip them with everything they needed. And then one of my mentor’s said to me, “Well you know what the problem is, Bernadette? People just want the fish, they want the fish supper with a side of fries and a lemon and tartar sauce on the side.”

The Key to Boosting Your Online Sales

When I started to make sure that I was really giving people what they wanted, then my sales shot up. And I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve made the mistake of then shifting into giving people what I think they need, and I’d see a downturn or sometimes even a product launch would be a complete flop.  Paying attention to this is that important.

You need to constantly keep track.  You need to continue to ask yourself … “Am I giving people what they really, really want?”  And then with integrity, you need to make sure that you are delivering everything they need.
